A lecture about Timorous Beasties

Today I get some inspirations of the lecture the Spatial   Communication Presents Paul Simmons, Co-founder of Timorous Beasties. Paul Simmons is co-founder with Alistair McAuley of the design studio Timorous Beasties set up in 1990 after they met studying textile design at Glasgow School of Art. In today’s lecture he showed some of their works not only wallpaper and textiles but some special prints like their print some beautiful pattern on a stone or their print picture on a mood door, which are the incredible designs made our surrounding beautiful and fashionable.
This presentation and discussion of Timorous Beastie’s work is part of a series of events organised by the Spatial Communication Programme Group as a platform for the discussion of future developments in the field.

I real like the serious of cities scenery include London, Edinburgh and New York…! They took many pictures in those cities and then select some interesting images to drawing and print it in fabric. He also showed some historical textiles, people in the past began to draw story and landscape and print in fabric, which is interesting and really beautiful.

London is a magic place, I tell myself I need observe it clearly and learn different things from different areas, then I need to use a design way to keep recording it.

Edvard Munch exhibition

I visited the Edvard Munch exhibition at Tate Modern last Friday, which is one of meaningful exhibitions I have visited in London. I was moved by his paintings because of his talent of art ,his  unique painting style and he stick to his art when he was in trouble of his eyes.
I found something interesting things that there were three similar paintings of Munch in the exhibition. Why did he paint a same common scene with three or four times? For more money or other things…? An other thing made me confuse is that people had no distinct face details in Munch’s painting, sometimes people in his paintings were back side, sometimes they had scary face no normal eyes or nose even its plant with any sense organs.
However, his paintings are different from other arts in the same period, his style is quite unique deal to the shape and the color in his paintings are no according to the reality , may be because his can not catch the real thing because his eye’s problem  ,but it let his work interesting and special.
I personally think the most significant thing I learned from Edvard Munch is insist in the art, everyone probably will face the trouble , sometimes we give up  because it is really hard, sometimes we stick to our dream or our work and then most of insist are succeed.

The Exhibition review of Yayoi Kusama

Yayoi Kusama is a famous contemporary artist in Japan. She has a retrospective exhibition, which is held in Tate Modern Museum in 5 June. Today i want to write something about my feeling when i have visited this exhibition. Because someone in my class mentioned her works.

The exhibition is divided into fourteen rooms. The arrangement of the exhibition is according to the period of Kusama’s artistic career. Because of her early works mainly focus on oil paintings, so those artworks are configured with the fine canvas frames and hanged on the wall. While the curator puts together by a series of painting and same style. By such arrangement, the audience can clearly understand the ideas of Kusama, processes and development of the period.

The accumulation sculptures area is the most spectacular room. The same shape of the object is copied by thousands times and composed of a variety of shape. The spectators can feel unthinkable through the kind of dense when they enter the room. In the meantime, the audiences can feel the artist’s frightened from the artworks. Due to there are a lot of sculptures put on the ground and in order to give the audiences better appreciation of the artworks without prejudice to the sculptures. The curator designs new equipments. The exhibition does not pull up the cordon in order to prevent the audiences to approach the artworks.  The curator pastes the batten instead of the cordon, which has the similar color of the floor on the ground. When the spectator across the batten, an alarm will be rang and remind the audience not close to the creation.

According to the habitual behavior of the exhibition that wonderful things tend to be in the final, this exhibition is also. When the audience appreciate the oil painting and enjoy the fantastic world that Kusama produced, the next room will bring the audience into the top of the excitement. I`m here, but nothing, like it abstract name, the room lead visitor into the complex spirit world of Kusama. This is a dark room which full of small dots with the effect of fluorescence colour. With the irradiation of ultraviolet lamp, the small dots reflect the weak luster. Relying on these lights can dim to identify items in the room, from the chair to the cup. Also the dots like floating in the space.

Out of the dark room is her recent works area, and then by ushered in the new round of visual feast. The colourful small bulbs though the surface of the mirror reflection and present countless images. The audiences imagine themselves traveling in the universe because of the constant transformation lamps. In here audiences’ cheerful mood will be to reach the top and with the exciting attitude to leave the exhibition.
